FAQ -

Q - What is the process of commissioning a custom item from you?

A - The process is pretty straight forwards - we can either chat on the phone or make time to meet and discuss what your interested in. Maybe it’s a version of something I’ve already made or you’ve already seen, or maybe your idea is much less defined and requires some design time are research, either way we hone the design. From there we would talk material options and project timeline (how many fittings are needed, if there is a hard deadline for its completion). Once at that point I can give you an estimate of cost, or, if you have a budget, I can tell you what can be done within the scope of that budget. Once that is cleared up, the project will commence. Most garments require 2-3 fittings depending on the item, the first one usually being a muslin (cotton mock-up of the final). Once completed I usually leave room for one more round of any slight alterations that may be needed, and then the project is complete!

Q - What do you mean when you refer to a material as “deadstock” or “vintage”?

A - Deadstock refers to a garment or material that is no longer in production. A deadstock fabric might not necessarily be old, but since no more of it is likely to be made, it is inherently more rare and (in my opinion) special.
A vintage fabric is an older textile, it is also likely to be deadstock. Most of my vintage fabrics I’ve purchased as the last few yards on their role, meaning that they are very likely to be all that is left in the world of that material.
Deadstock and vintage fabrics, despite their inherent uniqueness and rarity can come with drawbacks. Older material has sometimes been in storage for years and may be discolored or otherwise superficially imperfect. I tend to try and work around those imperfections, but some may come through. This doesn’t effect the overall quality of the material or garment construction, but it is an added challenge to working in material with its own history.

Q - I really want one of your items, but I’m not sure if I’ll fit in the size you’ve listed. Do you make items in other sizes?

A - Yes I can certainly make you one of my items in another size. Since (at the moment) I make all my garments one at a time, I do not have the production capacity to have a range of sizes made for every garment. Because of this I focus on making them all roughly the same size (which just so happens to be mine). If you’d like to inquire about ordering alternate measurements, or if you’d just like to learn more to see if these might fit you, please feel free to reach out to me and we can talk!

Q - Do you do returns?

A - No, not at the moment. This is a small operation (just me most of the time, making and selling everything) I simply do not yet have time to process return shipments properly. I hope to soon bring this as an option, but for the time being, I’ll be here to answer any questions you may have about an item before you purchase it so make sure you’re confident in it.
